Bluebirds and Foxes win thrillers while Forest climb into top six
Cardiff City have climbed into second ahead of Swansea after beating Watford while Nottingham Forest have moved into the play-off places.
Cardiff capitalised on Swansea dropping points by seeing off in-form Watford 4-2 on home soil. Gabor Gyepes wrapped up the points late on after Craig Bellamy, Michael Chopra and Jay Bothroyd all netted first-half goals.
High-flying Swansea City claimed a late point in a 1-1 draw against Barnsley at Oakwell. Bobby Hassell's early goal had The Tykes in front for most of the match prior to Scott Sinclair converting from the penalty spot.
Norwich City have also moved past The Swans following a 2-1 success over Sheffield United at Bramall Lane. Andrew Crofts' brace was enough to give The Canaries all three points in South Yorkshire.
Leeds twice came from a goal down to draw 2-2 with Portsmouth at Fratton Park. John Utaka fired Pompey ahead for a second time in the second half, but substitute Davide Somma ensured The Whites claimed a point from their long trip to the South Coast.
Reading remain outside the play-off places despite coming from a goal behind to draw 1-1 with Hull City. Corry Evans put the visitors in front, but Ian Harte's emphatic penalty secured a point for The Royals.
Preston are still rooted to the foot of the table after claiming a creditable 1-1 draw away to in-form Middlesbrough. Matthew Bates' goal looked like giving Tony Mowbray's side the points prior to Billy Jones' late leveller.
Crystal Palace are still in the Championship drop zone despite a goalless home draw with Bristol City. The point moves Eagles to within a point of fourth-from-bottom Sheffield United.
There were also six goals at The Walkers Stadium as Leicester overcame Millwall 4-2. Souleymane Bamba helped himself to a brace as Sven Goran Eriksson's men moved into the top half of the table.
Ipswich secured their first victory under new manager Paul Jewell after getting the better of Doncaster in a five-goal thriller. Billy Sharp's brace meant it was 2-2 with an hour played prior to Carlos Edwards' winner.
Saturday's early kick-off saw Nottingham Forest secure a league double over fierce rivals Derby thanks to Robert Earnshaw's second-half winner at Pride Park. The former Derby man found the back of the net with 79 minutes played.
The late match sees struggling Scunthorpe host Burnley in Eddie Howe's first game in charge of The Clarets.
