Six Nations 2011: England call up four injury replacements to Elite Player Squad

Northampton Saints flankers Tom Wood and Phil Dowson have been called into England’s RBS Six Nations squad.

The pair have been called up as direct replacements for England captain Lewis Moody, who has been ruled out of the first three games of the tournament with a knee injury and Leicester flanker Tom Croft, who is sidelined with a shoulder injury.

England manager Martin Johnson has also called up Bath full-back Nick Abendanon as a replacement for Delon Armitage, who has been dropped from the squad having received an eight-week ban for pushing a doping control officer. Armitage, however, is appealing the sanction.

Meanwhile, Leicester lock George Skivington also joins the squad, which is currently at a warm-weather training camp in Portugal, after Northampton’s Courtney Lawes was ruled out of the tournament with a knee injury.

Leeds flanker Hendrie Fourie has also travelled to Portugal, despite suffering a calf injury in his side’s Amlin Challenge Cup win over Bucuresti. The Rugby Football Union said Fourie was being assessed by the England medical staff on Monday.

England have also made seven changes to the Saxons squad, with the most eye-catching being the inclusion of Samoan-born Leicester centre Manu Tuilagi for the injured Mathew Tait.

Gloucester prop Nick Wood, London Irish hooker James Buckland, Worcester Warriors lock Graham Kitchener, and Gloucester Rugby full back Olly Morgan are also named as injury replacements for Matt Mullan, Rob Webber, Dan Ward-Smith, and Alex Goode.

Harlequins lock George Robson replaces the suspended David Attwood and Quins full back Mike Brown takes over from Abendanon following his promotion to the senior squad.
