League leaders Lille came unstuck on the road on Sunday, allowing Rennes and PSG to close the gap.
Lille remain three clear of second-placed Marseille, but threw the title race wide open with a 1-0 defeat at Montpellier.
The game appeared to be meandering towards a tame goalless stalemate, with neither side able to fashion a clear-cut opportunity.
However, on 84 minutes Younes Belhanda settled the tie in favour of the hosts as he drilled a low drive into the bottom corner.
The defeat is Lille's first in the league since 24th October, while Montpellier climb to sixth and now sit inside the European places.
