Possible reprieve for Amanatidis

Petkovic moves to Saudi Arabia until the end of the season

Former Frankfurt captain Ioannis Amanatidis seems to have a chance to return to the first-team fold barely a week after a bust-up at Commerzbank Arena.

Last week Frankfurt manager Michael Skibbe had banned the former Greece international from the first-team squad after a row about the player's lack of opportunities.

Amanatidis, 29, suffered from frequent injuries last season to fall out of Skibbe's plans, but he has been training on a regular basis in the current campaign.

Frankfurt executive Heribert Bruchhagen therefore thinks there may be a chance to end the dispute and is planning to discuss the situation.

Bruchhagen told Hessischer Rundfunk media: "If there are changes in the sporting sector, I can imagine Ioannis Amanatidis returning to the first-team squad."

Frankfurt chairman Peter Fischer said: "The door is not closed for a player like Ioannis.

"There will certainly be possibilities to firm up the relationship between the manager and the player."

Meanwhile, Frankfurt have confirmed they have loaned former Serbia Under 21 international Nikola Petkovic to Saudi Arabian outfit Al-Ahli until the end of the season, where he will link-up with ex-international boss Milovan Rajevac.
