Mercedes GP driver sets the pace ahead of Petrov and Hamilton
Mercedes GP's Nico Rosberg set the fastest time on day three of Formula One testing in Barcelona on Sunday.
The German driver lapped the 4.65-km Circuit de Catalunya in a time of one minute 23.168 seconds to go 0.295s clear of Renault's Vitaly Petrov.
Rosberg spent the morning gaining experience of Pirelli's intermediate tyre after overnight rain brought a damp track.
When conditions improved in the afternoon, he ran a number of longer runs to further develop the team's understanding of car and tyre behaviour and also continued his familiarisation with the KERS system.
Rosberg's day concluded with qualifying simulations, including operation of KERS and the adjustable rear wing.
"It was interesting running with the intermediates this morning and, although the warm-up is tricky, we definitely improved our understanding of the tyres," said Rosberg, who completed 92 laps in all.
"Our long runs this afternoon included some aero work in preparation for our next upgrade package before going into lower-fuel, new-tyre running at the end of the day."
McLaren's Lewis Hamilton was third fastest ahead of Williams rookie Pastor Maldonado and Red Bull's Mark Webber, who concentrated on a race simulation in the afternoon after the morning's wet conditions forced the cancellation of a planned qualifying programme.
Meanwhile, Felipe Massa was 10th quickest as Ferrari also spent the afternoon running a race simulation.
The test concludes on Monday.
