Tomlin feels bad weather could play into Pittsburgh's hands
Green Bay Packer Clay Matthews is looking to create a bit of family history on Sunday with a win in Super Bowl XLV.
The linebacker is the latest member of the Matthews clan to make it in the NFL, following in the footsteps of both his grandfather and his father, Clay Jnr.
However, only his uncle Bruce, who played in the title game in 1999 with the Tennessee Titans, has previously represented the family in a Super Bowl.
On that occasion Bruce was on the losing side, the Titans going down to the St Louis Rams, but Clay insists the lack of success isn't a major disappointment for .
Great careers
"In all honesty, they couldn't have cared less. That didn't determine their career. It doesn't determine people's careers, win or lose, despite what the media says," said Matthews.
"They had great careers for 19 years of play and the games, the years, the plays they made speak for themselves despite not making a Super Bowl or winning a Super Bowl.
"Hopefully, though, we can pull one off for the whole Matthews family. It'd be really exciting to bring one home."
Matthews and the rest of the Packers were forced indoors for their first practice session on Wednesday due to the adverse weather conditions in Texas.
Snow, ice and freezing temperatures meant Green Bay shifted their session from the Southern Methodist University in Dallas to facilities at Highland Park High School.
However head coach Mike McCarthy insists the late change will not hamper the team's preparations for the big game.
"I think it's practical that we will be inside for sure today and probably for the rest of the week," he said.
Unexpected
Pittsburgh, their opponents on Sunday, also moved their session on Wednesday indoors at Texas Christian University.
Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward admitted that the weather had caught his team cold - and not just because of the wind-chill factor.
"I especially wasn't expecting bad weather here," he said. "Fort Worth isn't prepared for the snow as opposed to Pittsburgh.
Head coach Mike Tomlin believes the conditions should work in Pittsburgh's favour as they are used to playing in the cold at Heinz Field.
"The weather has probably been a blessing," Tomlin admitted. "We are probably more familiar with these types of weather conditions."
