Chelsea - Fernando Torres will be firing on all cylinders soon, says John Terry

It's probably fair to say that few people would have expected Fernando Torres to endure such a lengthy spell without a goal after his £50 million move to Chelsea.

Wednesday's Champions League quarter-final encounter made it 10 games in a Chelsea shirt - plus an appearance for Liverpool and Spain - without finding the net, although the 27-year-old came agonisingly close to breaking his duck.

An acrobatic save from Edwin van der Sar ensured Torres was kept at bay at Stamford Bridge as United secured a vital 1-0 win, but the Chelsea faithful would have been buoyed by the performance of their record-signing.

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has recently praised the talents of the Spaniard, and now John Terry has come out in full support of his Chelsea teammate.

"It's just a case of getting that first goal, getting that off your shoulders, and then you can move on," said the Chelsea captain.

"It must be hard as well, people carrying on talking about it. It must be a big weight to carry as well with the fee that he came for.

"But he knows he's good enough to play, the players certainly know he's good enough, and he's got our full support.

"Obviously, there's big competition up front and, with guys like Didier Drogba and Nicolas Anelka, big rivalry. But, at the same time, they get on brilliantly on and off the field. And I think everyone wants to help him, help him settle in and get that first goal."
