Afghanistan will meet Pakistan in their first one-day international against a full member in Sharjah on Friday.
Despite being gripped by war, Afghanistan is one of the fastest growing cricket nations after earning one-day international status in 2009 as well as qualifying for the 2010 World Twenty20.
Friday's match is set to be another flagship moment in their progress as they begin a crucial month that will also see them attempt to qualify for this year's World Twenty20.
Pakistan will also use Friday's match as a warm-up to their ODI series against England and coach Mohsin Khan is wary of under-estimating their fledgling opposition.
"Afghanistan is coming up very fast and we will take them very seriously," he said.
"This one-day against Afghanistan will give us an opportunity to switch to the one-day mode before the series against England."
Pakistan begin their four-match ODI series against England in Abu Dhabi on February 13.
