Sturridge: Chelsea are still a big club

Chelsea striker Daniel Sturridge insists the Blues are still one of the big guns in the Barclays Premier League.
The Stamford Bridge outfit have won the league three times in the last seven seasons but are currently struggling to make an impact in the current campaign, where they currently lie fourth, 12 points behind joint leaders Manchester City and Manchester United.
But ahead of Sunday's eagerly-anticipated clash with the Red Devils, Sturridge insists the Blues are still a force to be reckoned with.
"We are a big club, and I don't think anybody should forget that," Sturridge said on Chelsea's official website.
"Just because we have had a bit of a bad spell and we haven't been winning as frequently as we have in the past, I think people are doubting the credibility of Chelsea which they should never do.
"We're a great club, and we are going to go out there on Sunday and prove to everybody that we can still compete with the likes of Manchester United.
"We've already shown by beating Manchester City that we can still mix it with the top two and we will be going out there on Sunday to show what we're about."
While the England international admits Chelsea haven't been at their best this season, he has called for the fans to realise the Blues are currently undergoing a period of transition under new coach Andre Villas-Boas, who only arrived at Stamford Bridge in the summer.
"We haven't been as consistent as we would have like but we're in a progressive stage where all the teams are improving.
"The mood in the camp is good and everybody is looking forward to going out there and showing what they can do."
Despite playing on the right-side of attack for much of the season, Sturridge is hoping he can weigh in with more goals as he looks to propel the club up the table.
"I can't score in every game because it's difficult from that position," the 22-year-old added. "But hopefully I can carry on producing my fair share of goals and keep getting assists as well.
"It's good that I'm scoring goals, that's what I love doing, I love scoring goals that help the team win games and that's what I'll be striving to do.
"I want to score as many as I can in order to help us climb the table."
Sturridge has already scored ten goals in 20 appearances in all competition for Chelsea this season.
