Australian to replace Alker as captain
Salford have confirmed that Australian half-back Daniel Holdsworth will replace Malcolm Alker as captain this season.
Holdsworth has made a big impression at the Willows since arrive from Canterbury Bulldogs - with the 26-year-old turning down a number of offers to extend his stay back in June.
And with Alker hanging up his boots after a decade skippering the Reds, Salford head coach Shaun McRae has named Holdsworth as the perfect replacement.
"Daniel was an influential player in his first season and a performer of the highest level and I feel he is the right person with the right attitude to take the mantle from long-serving captain Malcolm Alker," said McRae.
Holdsworth, who is fit again after suffering a shoulder injury last season, is relishing the challenge.
"It's a great honour to be taking on the role of captain at Salford City Reds," he said.
"Malcolm leaves a big void but I hope I can do justice to the role and look forward to leading the Reds out in the final year at the Willows in what will hopefully be a successful season."
