Patriots quarterback wins OPOY for second time in four years
Tom Brady has been named the Associated Press NFL Offensive Player of the Year for the 2010 season, while Troy Polamalu has won the defensive version.
New England Patriots quarterback Brady, who attempted a record 355 straight passes without being intercepted during the campaign, won the award for a second time in four years.
Michael Vick of the Philadelphia Eagles finished some way behind second place after securing 11 votes to Brady's 21.
Pittsburgh Steelers safety Troy Polamalu edged out Green Bay Packers linebacker Clay Matthew by 17 votes to 15 to win the Defensive Player of the Year.
Polamalu missed two games during the season but when present was the cornerstone of the Pittsburgh defence and has become the sixth Steeler to win the award.
Touchdowns
Brady threw for 36 touchdowns with just four interceptions as the Patriots built an NFL-best record of 14-2 over the course of the regular season, before losing to the New York Jets in the play-offs.
"To me it comes down to the mental toughness and determination of the players and coaches," Brady said.
He added: "I feel our team really grew together over the course of the season. It was a privilege to be a part of this team.
"My only disappointment is that we couldn't take advantage of our opportunity in the playoffs, but hopefully we learn from that and use it as motivation toward accomplishing our goals for next season."
Brady finished with the best passer rating in the NFL at 111, while his 65.9 completion percentage was second to only Philip Rivers of the San Diego Chargers.
"I've been here for a while, so I've seen our offense evolve," the 33-year-old said.
"We do some different things now than we've done in the past. Ultimately we're still trying to do the same thing, which is be productive and win games."
